Merchants Even Series in 12 innings 2-1, Game 3 Tonight at Victory 7:30PM

Mike Sorrentino’s single knocked in Scott Searles with the game winner when the Wakefield Merchants walked off with a 12 inning 2-1 win over Alibrandis on Thursday night at Morelli Field.

With the win, the Merchants evened the best of three series at 1-1. The deciding game three will be played tonight (Friday) at Victory Field in Watertown starting at 7:30 PM.

Game two featured an outstanding early duel between Alibrandis’ Chris Costa and Wakefield’s Colin Jaena.

The Merchants took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Tyler Lyne drove in Jon Luders.

Alibrandis evened things up at one each in the top of third when a Teddy Dziuba two out single scored Ryan Leung who had doubled.

The game stayed 1-1 until the 12th. Searles led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored when Sorrentino delivered a base hit down the leftfield line.

Joseph Maguire got the win with three innings of scoreless ball in relief of Jaena.

The winner of Friday’s game three will move on to meet the Lexington Blue Sox in the best of five championship series.
