Chiefs, Merchants & Blue Sox Win Tuesday’s ICL Battles

Evan Reynolds went 3-3, including a homer and four RBI’s, to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 8-4 win over Alibrandis at Victory Field. Nate Witkowski (1-0) got the win with two innings of work in relief of starter Nick Remy. Andrew Caulfield supplied the game winner with a bases clearing triple in the seventh. Veteran Dave Lightbody had two of Alibrandis six hits.

The Wakefield Merchants unleashed a 13 hit attack and in the process thumped the Malden Maddogs 13-1 at Maplewood. Chris Butler led the way at the plate with three hits and three RBI’s and Steve Rizzuto added a solo homer. Colin Jaena (1-0) allowed just five hits in six innings to record the win.

At Trum, the front running Lexington Blue Sox improved to 18-4-1 on the season in a 10-4 win over the Somerville Royals. The Blue Sox came up with their biggest inning of the season when the first 10 batters reached base and they scored seven runs in the top of the third inning. Ross Curley had two hits and three RBI’s to lead the Lexington offense, which received 15 walks from Royals’ pitching. Mike Geannelis (4-1) went five innings, striking out ten, to grab the win. Blaise Cormiers had two hits and a couple of RBI’s for the Royals.

 

Maddogs, Alibrandis & Blue Sox Grab Monday Wins

The Malden Maddogs scored in every inning but the third on the way to a 14-7 win over the Americans in Melrose. Levine Elias Fhagen-Smith (2-0-1) got the win in relief of starter Zak Levine.

Chris Costa (2-0) fired a four-hitter, striking out 10, when Alibrandis beat the Andre Chiefs 4-1 at Maplewood. Juan Parra, Ryan Lueng and James Cramphin had two hits each for the winners. Mike Gedman hit a solo homer for the Chiefs. Zach Kirby (4-4) also struck out ten but took the loss.

The Blue Sox erased a 2-0 deficit, then broke a 2-2 seventh inning tie, and walked off with a 3-2 over the Reading Bulldogs in Lexington. Ross Curley scored the winning run on Julian Alvarez’ fielders choice for the Blue Sox first walk-off of the season. Borja Jones-Berasaluce (4-0) picked up the win with an inning of scoreless relief.

Alibrandis & Royals Both Sweep, Merchants Win 1-0

Alibrandis took both ends of a doubleheader in Reading 7-5 & 2-1. Teddy Dziuba had three RBI’s and Juan Parra, Mike Maguire and Jake Miller had two hits each in the opener. Ryan Corriveau (5-1) went five innings to get the win. In game two, Matt Horan (2-3) went the distance and struck out nine as Mark Addesa and James Cramphin drove in the runs.

The Royals swept the Melrose Americans 12-1 & 4-1 at Trum Field. Martin Marintchev homered and Josh Desai (3-0) picked up the win in game one. In the nightcap, Paul Covelle (2-2) struck out 14 batters in six innings complete the Royals sweep.

In Wakefield, James Maguire (5-2) outdueled Evan Walsh (2-2) when the Merchants edged the Andre Chiefs 1-0. Jon Luders fifth inning single drove home Ryan Collins with the game’s only run. Maguire struck out nine and allowed only four hits.

Americans Win 10-8, Blue Sox Take 6-2 Comeback on Friday

Charlie Huegi went a perfect 4 for 4, with two RBI’s, and Elias Varinos added three hits, including a double, when the Melrose Americans outslugged the Maddogs 10-8 in Malden on Friday night. Jason Giagrande (1-0) picked up his first win in relief of Ronnie Luke.

In Lexington, the Blue Sox scored six times in the bottom of the sixth inning to comeback and beat the Andre Chiefs 6-2. Alex Votik had a three RBI double and Ross Curley, Kyle Adie and Anderson Jimenez all had two hit games for the Blue Sox. Junior Pena (1-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Tony Serino had two hits and an RBI while Tim Dunphy (3-2) took the loss for the Chiefs.

A single game in Wakefield and two doubleheaders are on tap for Sunday in the ICL. The Chiefs visit the Merchants at Walsh at 3:00 PM while the Reading Bulldogs host Alibrandis at Morton Field in a twinbill beginning at 3:00 PM. In the other doubleheader, the Americans and Somerville Royals meet at Trum Field starting at 5:00 PM.

 

Blue Sox & Chiefs in Thursday Win Column

The Blue Sox scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind and beat the Wakefield Merchants 5-4 in Lexington. Ross Curley reached on a fielders choice to bring home Anderson Jimenez with the tying run before Curley scored the winning run on an error. Bill Christopher (1-0) got the win and Manny Delcarmen recorded his fifth save. Joseph Maguire (4-3) took the loss. Jake Nardone drove in two of the Merchants runs.

In Melrose, Central Catholic rookies Jack Anthony and Nick Remy (1-0) combined on a six-hitter when the Andre Chiefs beat the Americans 3-1 in eight innings. Anthony went the first six innings while Remy struck out four batters over the last two frames to pick up his first win. Nate Witkowski led the Chiefs offense with a couple of doubles. Charlies Huegi had two hits as well as the Americans’ RBI. Nick Colucci (0-2) took the loss in relief of Mike Peters and Chris Mitchell.

The Americans visit the Malden Maddogs at 7:45 PM at Maplewood and Blue Sox entertain the Chiefs in Lexington in the two ICL games on the Friday night schedule.

Chiefs, Bulldogs & Alibrandis Gain Wednesday Wins

Zach Kirby tossed a four-hitter, striking out 11, to get the Andre Chiefs a 4-1 win over the Blue Sox in Lexington. Steve Passatempo led the Chiefs with a two run homer and Andrew Caulfueld had an RBI double. Kirby (4-3) allowed only an unearned run in the third inning. Aaron Barbosa had two of the Blue Sox hits and scored their only run. Mike Geanellis (3-1) took his first loss.

Gabe Van Emon (2-0) struck out 10 in 4.2 innings, and combined with Anthony Sapenza and Jack Theriault on a one-hitter, when the Reading Bulldogs blanked the Royals 6-0 in Somerville. Brendan McDonald led the Bulldogs offense with a pair of doubles and three RBI while Darren Hartwell chipped in with a couple of hits and an RBI. The trio of Reading pitchers struck out 13.

Mike Maguire scored twice and had a three hits including a triple, and Teddy Dziuba drove in two runs, to lead Alibrandis to a 3-1 win over the Melrose Americans at Victory Field. Brian Tanguy (1-0) went four innings to record the win and combined with Nate Beck, Bryan Saffelle and Anthony Delprete, who all threw a scoreless inning, on a four-hitter. Josh Bohn had a triple and a single and scored the Americans’ run in the second inning.

The Malden Maddogs-Wakefield Merchants game was postponed due to wet grounds at Walsh Field.

ICL action continues on Thursday night with two games. The Americans host the Chiefs at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Merchants and Blue Sox tangle in Lexington at 8:00 PM.

 

Bulldogs & Maddogs Win, Royals-Merchants Split Sunday Doubleheader

Kyle Hawes and Cooper Marengi each drove in a couple of runs when the Bulldogs scored six times in their last two at bats to take a 6-1 win over the Lexington Blue Sox in Reading. Jack Wallace (3-1) allowed just three hits in five innings to get the win. Kevin Scanlon (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter Matt Karis.

The Malden Maddogs made three first inning runs standup and went on to shutout Alibrandis 3-0 at Victory Field.

In Wakefield, the Merchants and Somerville Royals split a doubleheader. The Royals took the opener 4-3 and the Merchants came back to win the nightcap 3-1.

On Monday, Alibrandis visits the Americans at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Andre Chiefs host the Royals at Maplewood at 8:00 PM.

Royals & Blue Sox Both Get 2-1 Wins on Thursday

Eduardo  Soto had a double and drove in both runs when the Somerville Royals edged the Reading Bulldogs 2-1 at Morelli Field. Cal Carroll (1-0-1) got the win with four innings of one-hit ball, striking out six.

Pat McGowan (2-0) picked up his second win of the year, with help from Mike Geanellis in the fifth, and Manny Delcarmen, who recorded his fourth save, when the Blue Sox beat Alibrandis 2-1 in Lexington. Aaron Barbosa had an RBI for Lexington while a Teddy Dziuba double accounted for the Alibrandis’ run in the top of the seventh. Sean Sullivan (2-2) took the loss.

There are no ICL games scheduled for Friday or Saturday.

Rain Postpones All ICL Games Scheduled for Wednesday

Heavy thunderstorms have caused the postponement of all four games that were scheduled on Wednesday night in the ICL.

 

Americans, Maddogs & Merchants Win, 3-3 Tie at Victory

Chris Mitchell (2-2) went the distance, striking out seven, when the Melrose Americans beat the Blue Sox in Lexington 5-4.  Josh Bohn, Nick Cordeau and Ian libby each had an RBI and Charlie Huegi scored twice and drove in a run for the Americans. Nate Espelin (1-1) took his first loss of the season.

The Malden Maddogs walked off with a 4-3 eight inning win over the Andre Chiefs at Maplewood. Logan Gillis led the Maddogs’ offense with a double and triple. Peter Maltzan knocked in Gillis with the walk-off single. Elias Fhagen Smith (1-0) worked the top of the eighth to get the win. Blaine McLean allowed only one run for the Maddogs over the first six innings. Evan Walsh (2-1) went the distance, striking out ten, but took the loss.

Jake Nardone went 4-4 and Bobby Losanno and Anthony Cecere drove in two runs each to lead the Wakefield Merchants to a 6-0 win over the Royals in Somerville. James McNamara (3-2) tossed 6.2 innings of five -hit shutout ball to gain the win.

The Reading Bulldogs and Alibrandis played to a 3-3 tie at Victory Field.
